Artist Statement
I was born in Brooklyn, New York July 31, 1964, and raised in Miami, Florida. I am of Italian and Cuban Origin. I have received my Bachelors of Visual Arts in Drawing and Painting from Florida International University in 1990.
I love humanity. I am amazed at the dichotomy of human existence. I am curious of the inherent beauty of each culture and its diversity. I am a narrative figurative painter. There are times that I glorify poverty, there are times that I paint battles within themselves, and there are times that I simply depict emotions. I am an anthropological connoisseur through the Visual Arts.
Currently, I am working on a series thematically representing scenes “On The Edge of Beauty ”, in each painting I am depicting an intimate and inviting views of a woman’s world . The scenes range from a multifigural composition about woman as a mother and wife with a narrative of isolation with in her environment that required perspective, space and distance; to single spin offs from the composition repeated in a more detailed ways.
These scenes derive from a Painting I first created in the series titled, "Promise," the room depicted in this painting in reality does not exist. All was manipulated to suite my imagination and narrative. Each Piece began in my sketchbook. Each piece required several photo sessions. These photographs helped to aid my imagination. Using Photoshop and several scanned images together I built a scene to achieve what my imagination wanted . The sketch, imagination and photos interchangeably assisted me to complete the painting.
